Gwanggyosan Hyungjebong

경기도 용인시 수지구 신봉동

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Hyungjebong is a 448m peak located on the southern side of Gwanggyosan, which spans across Suwon, Yongin, and Uiwang cities. It is a round-trip hiking course of about 2 to 4 hours, close to the city center and easy enough for beginners, so it is always crowded with hikers. Gwanggyosan, which is the second of Yongin's Eight Scenic Spots, has dense forests that allow hiking and forest bathing without sunlight even in summer, and is famous for its beautiful snowy scenery. In particular, on the hiking course to Hyungjebong, there is Cheonnyeonsuyaksuteo, a spring known for its excellent water quality. Hyungjebong can be climbed from both Yongin and Suwon. From the Yongin side, a representative course is Jo Gwang-jo's Tomb (Sanghyeon-dong) → Maebongyaksuteo → Beodeulchigogae → Cheonnyeonyaksuteo → Hyungjebong, a total of 5.3km taking about 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes to reach Hyungjebong, making it the longest among the courses. The average slope is 17 degrees, generally not difficult, but the section from Beodeulchigogae to Cheonnyeonyaksuteo has an average slope of 7 degrees, which may feel a bit boring for hikers seeking a more dynamic hike. From the Suwon side, a representative course is Kyonggi University / Gwanggyo Park → Firefly Restroom → Cheonnyeonsuyaksuteo → Baengnyeonsujeongsang → Hyungjebong, a total of 3.4km taking about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes to reach Hyungjebong, making it the shortest among the courses. Similarly, it is an easy course that even upper elementary school children can climb, with a large parking lot and restroom, making it the most used trail to Hyungjebong. Whether climbing from Yongin or Suwon, hikers converge at Cheonnyeonyaksuteo, and after passing Baengnyeonsu to reach the summit of Hyungjebong, they can enjoy a wide-open panoramic view from the top. If you have more energy, you can continue from Hyungjebong (448m) to Birobong (490m) and then to Sirubong (585m), the summit of Gwanggyosan. The Gwanggyo public parking lot located in Suwon's Gwanggyo Reservoir and Gwanggyo Park, and the Kyonggi University Suwon Campus parking lot, are large and directly connected to the trailhead, making them good starting points, so most hikers depart from the Suwon direction. The restroom at the trailhead, the Firefly Restroom, is the last one, so you should stop there before starting the full hike.
