Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Yihae-ryong Old House is a late Joseon period building located in a village near the southern valley of Seounsan Mountain in Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. According to the sangnyangmun (inscription on the ridge beam) recorded in the inner quarters, the inner quarters and the sarangchae (men's quarters) were built in 1797 (the 21st year of King Jeongjo's reign). The house faces southwest and consists of the inner quarters, sarangchae, and haengnangchae (servants' quarters). It is situated along the road, and entry to the house is through a gate in the 8-kan haengnangchae. The house is notable for connecting the inner quarters and sarangchae into a single building, utilizing structural advantages, and differentiating the orientation to secure a sarangmadang (men's courtyard) and an angmadang (inner courtyard), thereby distinguishing male and female spaces within the residence. Additionally, the method of shaping wooden materials such as beams and pillars preserves the form seen in traditional houses of the late 1700s, giving it high cultural heritage value.
