경기도 연천군 연천읍 지혜로117번길 20 (차탄리)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Yeoncheon Hyanggyo is a representative local educational institution of the Joseon Dynasty in Yeoncheon County. Yeoncheon Hyanggyo was originally founded near Eupnae-ri in 1398, relocated once in 1658, burned down during the Korean War, rebuilt near Chatang-ri in 1965, and moved to its current location in 1989 due to road construction. The building layout follows the typical 'front school, rear shrine' form. Today, it no longer serves an educational function but is used for holding Seokjeonje, a ritual honoring Confucius on his birthday (the 27th day of the 8th lunar month) annually, incense-offering ceremonies on the 1st and 15th of each lunar month, and as a venue for youth character education.
