Yonsei University

As the first building constructed at Yonsei University, this is a two-story stone building that began construction in 1919 and was completed in 1920. After Underwood (Korean name: Won Du-woo), the founder of Yonhi College, the predecessor of Yonsei University, returned to his hometown in the United States and secured a donation from Charles Stimson, who lived in Los Angeles, USA, for a permanent school building, he passed away. His successor, President Avison, built the building with that donation. Underwood's widow laid the cornerstone, and Miller, a chemistry professor at the time, supervised the construction. The architect is unknown, but it is said that American architects at the time came to Korea to design and draft the basic plans. It has a rectangular floor plan, a gable roof, and is a Gothic-style building.
