Bukaksan Sukjeongmun Gate

서울특별시 종로구 삼청동

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Sukjeongmun Gate (肅靖門) is one of the Four Great Gates (四大門) that make up the Seoul City Wall, serving as the northern main gate of Hanyang Fortress. Originally called Sukcheongmun (肅淸門), its name was changed to Sukjeongmun (肅靖門). Among the existing fortress gates, this is the only one with the fortress walls connected on both the left and right sides. The gate pavilion was newly built in 1976. Access was restricted to the general public for the security of the Blue House, but it was reopened in April 2006 along with a 0.5 km section of the western fortress wall and a 0.6 km section of the northern approach road. On January 21, 1963, it was designated as Historic Site No. 10 as part of the Seoul Hanyang Fortress.
