Changdeokgung Injeongmun Gate

Injeongmun Gate is the main gate of Injeongjeon Hall, the main hall of Changdeokgung Palace. Injeongmun Gate was the place where the coronation ceremony of the next king was held when the king's funeral (national funeral) took place. Several kings of the Joseon Dynasty, including Hyojong, Hyeonjong, Sukjong, Yeongjo, Sunjo, Cheoljong, and Gojong, held their coronation ceremonies here and ascended the throne. The building has three front bays and two side bays, and the roof is a hip-and-gable roof shaped like the Chinese character '八' (eight) when viewed from the side. The brackets, decorated to support the eaves of the roof, are arranged in the multi-bracket style, which is also placed between the pillars. The ceiling inside the building is an exposed ceiling where the ceiling materials are clearly visible, and the dancheong (traditional decorative coloring) is decorated most simply. As the place where the ceremony of succession to the throne was held, along with the main hall Injeongjeon, it is the building that best preserves the dignity and formality of the Joseon Dynasty palace.
