National Museum of Korean Contemporary History

The National Museum of Korean Contemporary History is a museum that records the journey of the Republic of Korea from the opening port period in the late 19th century to the present day. It opened on December 26, 2012, as the first national museum of modern and contemporary history. The museum was established to share the history of Korea, which developed through hardships and adversities, with the public through exhibitions, education, research, and collection of materials. The museum explains Korean history by dividing it into four exhibition halls by period. The first exhibition hall is themed 'The Dawn of the Republic of Korea,' the second 'Establishment of the Foundation of the Republic of Korea,' the third 'Growth and Development of the Republic of Korea,' and the fourth 'Advancement of the Republic of Korea, Leap into the World.' At the Children's Museum, children can learn about modern and contemporary history through hands-on experiences. Additionally, special exhibitions on various topics covering modern and contemporary history provide in-depth insights into Korea's modern and contemporary history. The museum also operates various educational programs and cultural events.
