The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Deoksugung is an art museum within a royal palace that houses Korean modern art. It was established with the aim of systematically organizing the formation and development process of Korean modern art, establishing the aesthetic consciousness and historical perspective revealed in modern art, and ultimately realizing the cultural identity of the Korean people.

The Seokjojeon West Wing of Deoksugung Palace, where the museum is located, is a building representing Korea's modern architectural style, completed in 1938, and features four exhibition halls, a lounge, and an art shop. As a specialized institution for modern art, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Deoksugung conducts various projects including research and study of modern art, exhibitions of modern art-related special exhibitions and collections, development and operation of various educational programs, academic activities and publications, and international exchange of modern art-related information. Since its opening in 1998 until 2005, it has held a total of 38 special and collection exhibitions, attracting approximately 2.5 million visitors. In addition, it holds academic events such as artwork explanations and lectures to enhance understanding of art overall, and develops and operates various educational programs, serving as a complex cultural space in the city center. It is located 70m from Exit 1 of City Hall Station on Seoul Subway Lines 1 and 2.
