Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Ganwoldo is a fishing village famous for its beautiful sunset. In particular, it is the third of the nine scenic spots of Seosan, where Ganwolam Hermitage, where Buddhist monk Muhak attained enlightenment, is located. It is rich in fresh seafood and is a representative tourist attraction for Seosan's seafood cuisine. Upon entering Ganwoldo, the Eoriguljeot Monument catches the eye first on the way to the pier. As such, this area is famous for oysters due to its environment bordering the West Sea's Cheonsu Bay.
Built in 1990, this monument is a white cement tower about 15 meters high with an oyster-shaped sculpture hanging at the top. In front of the monument, there are three bronze statues of women gathering oysters. Near the monument, a fish market and a tent restaurant village have formed, allowing visitors to enjoy oysters.
