Ganwolam (Seosan)

Ganwolam is a small hermitage located in Ganwoldo-ri, Buseok-myeon. It is said to have been founded by Master Muhak in the early Joseon Dynasty and later rebuilt by Master Song Mangong. Unlike other hermitages, this mysterious hermitage is connected to land at low tide and becomes an island at high tide, giving the impression of floating on water during high tide. The natural scenery and the ancient temple, which allows visitors to feel the spirit of their ancestors, attract a continuous stream of tourists. Additionally, the Gulburugi Gunwangje (Oyster Calling King Festival), praying for a bountiful oyster harvest from Ganwoldo, is held at high tide on the full moon day of the first lunar month every year in front of the Eoriguljeot Monument in Ganwoldo-ri. During this event, clean women who have not committed any impure acts dress in white clothes (sobok) and start dancing at the village entrance. Upon arriving at the oyster monument, they set up offerings and hold a prayer ceremony for a bountiful oyster harvest. The harvested oysters are also offered to tourists for tasting.
