Gangcheonsa Quince Tree

전북특별자치도 순창군 팔덕면 강천산길 270

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

The Gangcheonsa Quince Tree is a quince tree about 300 years old located on the path to Gangcheonsa Temple. It is 19m tall with a circumference of 3.1m, and splits into two branches at about 50cm in height. One branch extends and divides into two again, while the other branch splits into four and two branches at about 1m. There are two stories about who planted the quince tree: one says it was planted by a monk who stayed at Gangcheonsa Temple, and the other says it was planted by Shin Gyeong-jun, a Silhak scholar from Sunchang in the late Joseon period. It still blooms and bears fruit. To the left of the quince tree, a maple tree grows, and to the right, fern plants (a type of pteridophyte) are growing.
