Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

* Joseon Ceramic Specialized Museum, Gyeonggi Ceramic Museum * Gwangju Joseon Gwan-yo Museum is located in Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, an area where the royal kilns operated by the Joseon dynasty were established and operated for over 400 years. It is a specialized ceramic museum that researches Joseon white porcelain, conducts excavation and academic research on Joseon royal kiln sites, and provides education on traditional ceramic culture. To foster and develop Korean traditional ceramics, it hosts the 'Beautiful Our Ceramics Exhibition,' a traditional ceramic competition held biennially, showcasing beautiful Korean ceramics suited to contemporary Korean characteristics. The museum consists of two large exhibition halls, a special exhibition hall, and a multipurpose room, along with ancillary facilities such as a large outdoor sculpture park, wood-fired kilns, a Korean garden, a tea ceremony demonstration area, and a ceramic shopping mall selling ceramics produced in the Gwangju area. Gwangju Joseon Gwan-yo Museum permanently displays traditional ceramics produced at Joseon royal kilns, including pure white porcelain, blue-and-white porcelain, iron-painted white porcelain, and buncheong ware, which carry on the 500-year history of Joseon, as well as works by contemporary artists who inherit this tradition. Through planned and special exhibitions that illuminate our traditional ceramic culture and history, it allows visitors to experience the living tradition of Korean ceramics.

* Encounter Diverse Information on Ceramics * The Gyeonggi Ceramic Museum's exhibition hall is two stories high, with the Ceramic Culture Room and Special Exhibition Hall on the first floor and the Permanent Exhibition Hall on the second floor. The Ceramic Culture Room provides visitors with knowledge and information on ceramic concepts, history, and techniques. The museum holds at least two planned exhibitions annually, exploring the history and traditions of domestic and international ceramics by theme. These exhibitions, held in various spaces including the first-floor Special Exhibition Hall and the second-floor Permanent Exhibition Hall, offer new sights and learning materials not available in the permanent display. The Permanent Exhibition Hall is divided into Room 1 and Room 2: Room 1 provides an overview of the development process of ceramic culture on the Korean Peninsula, while Room 2 allows visitors to appreciate ceramic works that suggest future directions for Korean ceramics.
