Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Walking along the cozy atmosphere of Deoksugung Stone Wall Road, you will encounter the National Jeongdong Theater, an open cultural space in daily life that is like a neighbor to citizens. Opened in 1908 as a specialized venue for new drama and pansori, it is a historic theater embodying the restoration philosophy of Wongaksa, the first modern theater, and was designated as Seoul Future Heritage in 2015. Since its opening in 1995, it has presented the permanent performance 'Traditional Arts Stage,' highly artistic planned performances such as 'Myeonginjeon' and 'Art Frontier,' and programs for the general public like 'Noon Art Stage.' In 2010, it created and premiered the traditional musical 'Chunhyang Love Song,' successfully launching the permanent performance brand 'MISO,' and has introduced Korea's cultural value and beauty to foreign tourists visiting Korea as well as stages around the world. Additionally, by modernly reinterpreting the essential values of Korean traditional culture and arts, it has received much love for the second story of 'MISO,' 'Bae Bijangjeon' (Seoul), a dignified performance that both locals and foreigners can enjoy.
