Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
International Peace Art Park is located right next to the Peace Dam in Hwacheon, Gangwon-do. The park was created by reinterpreting decommissioned weapons, symbols of war, into peace artworks. It was built using tanks, self-propelled guns, anti-aircraft guns, and fighter jets that had been decommissioned and disposed of after the end of their service life. It opened in 2015 to coincide with the Korean War Armistice Day. International Peace Art Park, which advocates peace through the use of decommissioned weapons, is optimally suited for unification and security education. This is because it offers views of the Peace Dam, the World Peace Bell Park, and the Baekamsan inter-Korean waterway. Along with DMZ peace and security, it is also excellent for ecological tourism. The park features 15 pieces of military equipment, 7 general sculptures, and walking trails.
