The place name 'Gangchon' originates from 'Mulggae Mal,' meaning a village located along the Bukhangang River. With good public transportation accessibility and numerous amusement and accommodation facilities, it was a popular MT (Membership Training) destination for college students from the 1970s to the 1990s. Nearby natural attractions include Gugok Falls (4km southwest), Deungseon Falls, and Samaksan Mountain (2km east). Along the walking paths built along the Bukhangang River, visitors can enjoy various leisure activities such as swimming, fishing, sightseeing, and hiking.
