Samaksan Mountain (Chuncheon)

강원특별자치도 춘천시 서면 경춘로 1401-25

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Rising alongside Uiam Lake and the Bukhangang River, Samaksan Mountain is one of Chuncheon's representative scenic mountains. It consists of three rugged peaks: the main peak Yonghwabong (654m), Cheongunbong (546m), and Deungseonbong (632m), which gave it the name Samaksan (Three Peaks Mountain). Although not a high or grand mountain, it is considered a renowned mountain for its beautiful scenery and the stunning views from the summit. Samaksan features mysterious valleys and waterfalls created by quartzite joints. Deungseon Falls, Seunghak Falls, and Jureom Falls form spectacular sights, and from the summit, you can see the panoramic view of Chuncheon city center where Uiam Lake and the Bukhangang River harmonize. As its name includes 'aksan' (rugged mountain), the terrain is steep and challenging. The main trailheads are at Deungseon Falls ticket office and Uiam ticket office; the route from Uiam is a difficult course consisting of rock faces. Samaksan is a Gangwon-do monument, offering attractions such as Sangwonsa Temple, Heungguksa Temple, and Samaksan Fortress.
