Why travelers stop here
This beach features a white sand beach stretching 4.3 km, filled with fine sand. It is also called Myeongsasip-ri because the beach stretches about ten ri (a Korean unit of distance). The sand here is fine and soft, yet firm enough that footprints do not remain when stepped on. Wonpyeong Beach, neighboring Gungchon Beach, has a dense pine forest at its rear and is passed by the Ocean Rail Bike. The Ocean Rail Bike operates from Gungchon Station, proceeding in the order of Chogok Rest Area, Chogok Tunnel 1, Hwang Young-jo Memorial Park, Chogok Tunnel 1, Yonghwa Tunnel, and Yonghwa Station. The pine forest and walking trails are well developed, and visitors can enjoy water activities while auto camping, making it popular among family vacationers. Wonpyeong Beach is also known as a sunrise spot, attracting many visitors to see the sunrise. It was selected as one of the 50 quiet beaches chosen by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
