강원특별자치도 삼척시 근덕면 궁촌해변길 65

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located about 15 km along the national road from Samcheok toward Uljin in the southern direction, Gungchon Beach is surrounded by a sandy beach and a pine forest. For the convenience of tourists, vehicles can enter up to the sandy beach within the beach area, making auto camping possible. With the intersection of seawater and freshwater, the water is shallow and clean, making it an ideal place for families to enjoy together. Here, you can also catch freshwater crabs and sweetfish (ayu), a freshwater fish. Although not yet widely known to the general public, it is well equipped with various facilities. The wide beach space makes it perfect for pitching tents and camping. The water depth in front of the beach is shallow, and it is a clean area with almost no pollution. In the sea, many clams (baihap) inhabit, allowing you to catch clams with your toes.

To the north of the beach is Gungchon Port. The red and white lighthouse built on the breakwater of Gungchon Port enhances the beauty of Gungchon Beach. To the south, Gungchon Beach connects to Wonpyeong Beach. Nearby, there is the Samcheok Ocean Rail Bike Gungchon Station, where you can enjoy rail biking. It is also close to Gongyangwangneung (Tomb of King Gongyang), a Gangwon-do monument, and Yeongeunsa Temple, which houses the Samcheok Yeongeunsa Daeungbojeon and Palsangjeon, both Gangwon-do tangible cultural properties.
