Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Soyangho Lake is the largest artificial lake in South Korea, with a total storage capacity of approximately 2.9 billion tons, spanning across Chuncheon-si, Yanggu-gun, and Inje-gun in Gangwon-do. It was created upon the completion of the Soyang Dam in 1973, and due to its size and storage capacity, it is nicknamed the 'inland sea.' It is also widely used as a tourist resource, with many beautiful valleys such as Cheongpyeong Valley, which is designated as a national tourist destination. Soyang Tourism Development operates a cruise ship to Cheongpyeongsa Temple, and it is a top-tier lakeside destination in Korea, visited by 1 million tourists annually. It is also well-known as a fishing spot for over 50 species of freshwater fish, including caged fish farms and fish such as israeli carp, trout, carp, eel, and smelt.
