Guseong Falls

강원특별자치도 춘천시 북산면 청평리

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

On the forest path along the valley leading to Cheongpyeongsa Temple, there is Guseong Falls, about 9 meters high. It is called Gusong Falls because there are nine pine trees around the waterfall, and it is also called Guseong Falls because it is said to make nine different sounds. The water stream originating from Obongsan Mountain flows down the waterfall with a clear sound. Although the waterfall is not very large, the surrounding bizarre rocks and peaks spread out like a folding screen, dense trees, and clear water combine to create a splendid scenery. The scenery is especially beautiful in summer when the thick green foliage adds coolness, and in autumn when it is colored with brilliant fall leaves. Near the waterfall, there is a treasure called Hoejeonmun (Buddhist gate), which contains a tale related to a princess of the Yuan Dynasty. It is said that a young man who loved the princess died and was reborn as a lovesick snake, clinging to the princess's body and not letting go. The suffering princess visited Cheongpyeongsa Temple and finally became free from the lovesick snake. In the area, there are Gongju Cave, where the princess is said to have stayed, and Gongju Bath, where she is said to have bathed.
