Why travelers stop here
Opened in 1956 and maintaining its location to this day, Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market is the largest and most historic traditional market in the southwestern area, with about 300 shops and 400 street stalls in operation. In the past, Yeongdeungpo Market and Yeongdeungpo Station were the central areas of the sub-city center, creating a bustling night scene. Although the lively atmosphere of the past can no longer be seen due to nearby large department stores and supermarkets, it still retains much of the appearance of a traditional market. The passage from the Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market intersection toward the Yeongdeungpo Rotary mainly handles retail, while the surrounding area has shops selling wholesale items such as tools and stationery. Since 2018, a night market has been opened in the central passage and Sundae Alley of the market, operating mainly with food trucks and food items, gaining popularity through word of mouth.
