Ganghwa Yusubu Dongheon

Ganghwa Yusubu Dongheon is a government office building similar to today's county office. In the late Joseon period, Ganghwa, along with Gaeseong, Suwon, and Gwangju, was established as a special administrative district called Yusubu, and a Yusu (a senior second-rank official) was dispatched. The main building where the Yusu conducted official duties was Ganghwa Yusubu Dongheon. It was renovated in 1638 by Yusu Kim Sin-guk, and in 1769, Yusu Hwang Gyeong-won named it Hyeonmun-gwan. Due to several renovations, the original form no longer remains. The building has 8 kan (bays) in the front and 3 kan on the sides, with a hip-and-gable roof shaped like the Chinese character '八' (eight). It houses plaques inscribed with 'Myeongwiheon' and 'Igwandang' written by Baekha Yun Sun, a renowned calligrapher and scholar of the time.
