Dunchon Ijip Myoyeok

Dunchon Ijip Myoyeok is the tomb of Ijip, a civil official of the late Goryeo period, located in Hadaewon-dong, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam-si. It is a round joint burial tomb with his wife, Princess Consort Jeonghwa Taekju Hwang. Ijip was a civil official of the late Goryeo, passing the civil service examination during the reign of King Chungmok, and was renowned for his extensive knowledge and noble integrity. In 1368, after criticizing the misdeeds of Shin Don, he foresaw impending danger, carried his father on his back, and fled to Yeongcheon to live in seclusion. After Shin Don was executed for treason, he returned to Hyeonhwa-ri below Suyang Mountain. He was subsequently appointed as Panjeongyosisa but soon resigned and spent his days reading and farming. The burial mound, equipped with a dragon tail and armrests, is 1.8m high and 6.6m in diameter. Stone artifacts include a honyuseok (soul stone), a sangdol (offering stone), a square incense burner stone, and a jangmyeongdeung (long-burning lantern) at the center of the mound; mangjuseok (pillar stones) and a pair of muninseok (scholar stones) on the left and right of the sangdol; in addition, four chayangseok (sunshade stones), two-tiered gyecheseok (step stones), and one new and one old myopyo (tombstone) each facing west on the left and right sides of the mound. Among these, the jangmyeongdeung located at the center of the mound features a hwachang-gong (window opening) and a lotus bud decoration on the sago (official's hat-shaped) roof.
