Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

A pass located between Eommi-ri and Geombok-ri, Namhansanseong-myeon, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, where the road connecting Seoul and Gwangju passes. Eungogae is recorded in literature as Eomhyeon [掩峴]. According to the 'Yeojidoseo' (Atlas of Korea), the Gwangju-bu section describes it as a strategic point connected to Namhansanseong Fortress, where a bastion was built to monitor enemy movements and send signals in case of danger. Although Eungogae is a low pass at an elevation of 300m, it is connected to Namhansanseong Fortress, offering beautiful surrounding scenery. In summer, cool valley streams flow, attracting many visitors. It is especially popular for hiking in connection with Geomdansan Mountain, Yongmasan Mountain, and Namhansan Mountain. The area is also home to various restaurants and cafes, drawing a steady stream of visitors for dining. In Eommi-ri village near Eungogae, a Jangseungje (totem pole ritual) is held every two years in the second month of the lunar calendar, so a visit is recommended.
