Why travelers stop here
Pillow lava is named for its shape resembling a round pillow, and 'Auraji' refers to the confluence where two or more watercourses meet. The Auraji Pillow Lava is rock formed when high-temperature lava flowed and rapidly cooled and solidified upon encountering cold water (Yeongpyeongcheon Stream). Pillow lava is rarely found on land and is mostly formed in water-rich seabeds.
