Hwarim Seonwon

Hwarim Seonwon is a temple affiliated with the Seonhakwon Foundation. It is located on the slopes of Eunyongsan (隱龍山), a peak of Surisan (修理山) in Sangnok-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do. Although situated within the city, the temple is nestled cozily against the Eunyongsan peak of Surisan. There is an approximately 100-year-old mud house and an old well, and many people come to draw water from the well after hearing rumors that it cures illnesses. A juniper tree over 100 years old adds to the site's value. The temple's founding or history is not known. However, it is known as a place with famous medicinal water, and it is said that there was once a Yaksuam (Medicinal Water Hermitage) founded here in the early Goryeo period. The well, protected by a pavilion built next to the Daeungjeon (Main Hall), is that well.

The name 'Hwarim' (華林) is said to have two meanings. One refers to the Lumbini Garden where the Buddha was born, and the other refers to the place where the Maitreya Buddha will appear. The current name, Hwarim Seonwon, was changed from Yaksuam in 1972 when the Daeungjeon was built, to commemorate the meaning of calling the place where the Maitreya Buddha will appear 'Hwarim Garden.'
