Taekseungjeong Pavilion

경기도 양평군 용문면 용문로 834

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

This pavilion was a training hall where the Namyang Yang clan practiced archery. It is said that they set up a target at the end of the square in front of the pavilion, near Bonghwangjeong Pavilion, and shot arrows to hone their martial skills, thereby nurturing talents proficient in both literary and martial arts and bringing glory to this region. The meaning of 'Taekseung' originates from the idea that practicing archery by the pond follows the ways of the former kings, called 'Taek,' and that observing etiquette when ascending and descending the pavilion embodies the conduct of a gentleman, called 'Seung.' The building features a hip-and-gable roof with Korean-style ridge tiles, and it is a round-beam house with round pillars placed on natural foundation stones.
