Taebaek Police Station Watchtower

The Taebaek Police Station Watchtower (望樓) is a police facility used for military defense during the Korean War. Recognized for its historical value in illustrating the public security situation of the 1950s, it was designated as a Registered Cultural Heritage in 2005. The cylindrical watchtower, with a diameter of 4.3m and a height of 7m, has two floors. Each floor has windows on all sides for looking outside, offering a view of the entire Jangseong town. Below the floor of the watchtower, a square hole was made, and a ladder was placed to go up and down between the two floors. This building offers a glimpse into the chaotic situations of modern Korean history, such as war, guerrilla infiltration, and strict surveillance.
