Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Built around 1935, this bridge is the oldest coal industry-related facility in Taebaek. It vividly shows the painful history of resource exploitation during the Japanese colonial period and the era of Korea's modernization after liberation. The upper part was built for locomotives and mine cars transporting coal, and the lower part for pedestrians and vehicles. The pillars supporting the bridge are notable for their rainbow shape. Taebaek Jangseong Double Bridge is a facility within the Jangseong Mining Office, uniquely designed with the upper bridge for coal transport trams and the lower bridge for pedestrians and vehicles. The piers are rainbow-shaped, and with the recent construction of a new bridge, Geumcheon Bridge, it has now become a triple bridge.
