Gapyeong Yeonhari Juniper Tree

This juniper tree is located within the old house of Lee Cheon-bo in Gapyeong-gun. It is known to have been planted by the ancestor of Lee Cheon-bo, who served as Yeonguijeong (Chief State Councillor) during the reign of King Yeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty. The juniper is a tall evergreen coniferous tree with needle-like leaves that grows well throughout Korea. Since ancient times, it has been planted in sacred places such as temples and graves due to its symbolic meaning of purification. It is not particularly demanding of location and is planted on lawns around buildings or as street trees. With branches that grow straight or curved, it is used as a garden tree, hedge, and widely for bonsai. The Gapyeong Yeonhari Juniper Tree stands at a height of 13m with a crown width of 12m, exhibiting a magnificent presence. Its age is estimated to be about 300 years.
